Fashion Tips: Emerald is the Magic Colour This Year

With the start of a new year, we welcome a more energetic hue to the world of fashion in 2013: emerald. Don’t worry, you are not in Oz! As Pantone’s Colour of the Year for 2013, we are already starting to see this powerful shade cropping up in all corners of fashion. Not only is emerald jewellery more of a statement than it has been for a long time, but this fun, upbeat colour is featured in everything from gowns to gumboots this year. Here are a few simple ways to incorporate this year’s most stylish colour into your wardrobe, and before you know it you’ll be “Off to see the Wizard!”

Sometimes it can be hard to bring such a vibrant colour into your wardrobe without going overboard, but the key to keeping your look clean and fresh is to pick your statement pieces. Emerald is not what you think of as a ‘staple’ colour for your collection, so instead of rushing out and buying everything you see in this intoxicating hue, try selecting a few key pieces. A great way to do this is to focus on a section of your closet: shoes, accessories, overpieces, etc. Pair a cute neutral outfit with rockin’ emerald accessories or break out those Hunter boots that we are all in love with and you will make everyone green with envy.

Another trick to making your outfits pop with such a vibrant colour is to try mixing jewel tones. Colours like sapphire, royal blue, fuchsia, and deep purples will not only compliment emerald, but give it a whole new look. If a single colour focus in your outfit is too bold for you, breaking the colour up with similar toned, rich hues will spice up any look while staying true to your own fashion sense. Getting the right mix of colours is easier than you think because all of these deep tones add dimension without being a distraction.

Dare to be different in 2013! We all have the capability to be fashion rock stars, and it can be a lot easier than you think. Bold colours like emerald can make your outfit look like it is runway ready, while still being totally comfortable and simple. Emerald is no longer reserved just for redheads (although we are sure a huge fan of this year’s colour choice)! By focusing on either a few key pieces or getting the perfect colour combo, you too can “Go Green” this year!
